Non droughty soils,
Mid-March to Mid-April.
The same as conventional Spring Cereals.
Sow as for cereals 2.5-4cm deep into a warm and moist seed-bed. Rolling is beneficial to improve seed-to-soil contact.
80 – 100kg/ha (300 seeds/m2).
Wide choice of cereal products for crop protection.
Optimus based PGR programme is recommended. See the EAMU box for product links.
Ensure birds are deterred post-emergence.
As other cereals, Oats are susceptible to Fusarium Mycotoxins.
Spring varieties are less affected than Winter, and Naked Oats are the least affected.
P, K, Mg as per Spring Barley
Nitrogen 70- 90 kg/ha (split as 50:50 at planting and tillering)
Like normal Oats, very susceptible to Manganese deficiency so routine treatment
recommended.
The same as conventional Spring Oats.
Santini is the best performing UK variety.
August in the South of the UK and September in the North.
The same as conventional Spring Oats.
4 – 5 t/ha.
Good quantity and quality as per conventional Oats.
Dry immediately if necessary (max 1.5 m in depth if using a drying floor) to 12% moisture.
Once dry, cool as soon as possible for stable storage.
