Frequently Asked Questions

- Q When is
WintaLin harvested?
A Mid July to early August - Q Is
WintaLin just another name for Winter linseed?
A No, WintaLin draws on the breeding programme of the old Winter linseed but has better Winter hardiness, lodging resistance, reliability and profitability. - Q Is
Oliver a WintaLin variety?
A No, Oliver does not stand well enough and is very susceptible to disease. - Q Will
WintaLin survive a hard Winter?
A Yes, it is Winter hardy and has shown to be frost tolerant to -12ºC. In fact these temperatures were exceeded during Winter 2009/2010 – the hardest Winter for 30 years. No WintaLin varieties were killed by frost but non-WintaLin varieties were! - Q Does it
fall over?
A No, WintaLin has excellent standing power. In fertile sites the splitting of N applications and the use of Caramba and Folicur (which have powerful PGR activity) combine to minimise lodging risk. - Q What
about resistant Blackgrass?
A A range of products is available to tackle resistant Blackgrass. The approach is to use a sequence of products of differing resistance profiles. Defy, Butisan or Avadex should be available for use pre-emergence for this season. This may be followed if required by Lexus or Crawler. - Q What
about frost lift?
A All crops are susceptible to frost lift on soils that are not adequately consolidated. Crops that are well established and well consolidated (rolled) resist frost lift well. Sow early and make sure the crop is well established. - Q
