WintaLin Agronomy

Geographical Area All England and Wales
Soil Types Most soil types are suitable.
Seedbed

A firm, fine seedbed is required for conventional drilling
Min-till or direct drilling are excellent, providing soil conditions are good
Seed Rate 500 seeds/m to achieve 300 350 plants/m
Sowing Date Late August - Mid September
Sowing Depth
Into moisture - maximum 2.5 cm  - 2cm optimum
Fertiliser

Typically 50 kg/ha P&K (depending on soil indicies)
80 – 130 kg/ha N (depending on crop yield potential)
Weed Control

Various sequences of products (pre & post-emergence for broad-leaved weeds & grassweeds), including herbicide resistant situations
Pest Control

No flea beetle in Autumn
Pigeons favour rape over WintaLin.
Pigeons do not graze WintaLin until early Spring, by which time crops should begin to outgrow grazing
WintaLin has excellent powers of recovery – as good as rape
Disease Control

Kabatellia in Autumn, Septoria in Spring, Botrytis during flowering
Trace Elements Only apply if problems are known to exist
Desiccation

Glyphosate as a harvest aid for perennial grassweed control or to ensure a clean seedbed for min-till operations
Harvesting

Conventional combine between oilseed rape and wheat (in mid July/early August)
Yielding Likely range 2.5 – 3.5 t/ha (1.0 – 1.4 t/ac)
A full range of agrochemicals is available for use in WintaLin, which allows good weed control, including volunteer oilseed rape and herbicide resistant grassweeds.

Programmes can be tailored to suit the situation and yield potential of the site. Here are two possible scenarios of a likely agronomic programme – one for a site with a heavy grassweed problem and the second a site with a more limited grassweed problem and high soil Nitrogen status.
