TradiLin FAQs

Why can’t humans just take a fish oil capsule to increase their Omega 3 intake?
Fish oil contains high levels of EPA and DHA, which are known to be “good for the brain”, of which Omega 3 is the precursor.  However, studies have shown the benefits from consuming Omega 3 and not just EPA / DHA alone are significant. Omega 3 lessens the risk of heart disease and shows positive effects in reducing obesity and cholesterol.  Many would argue that the overall message of the goodness of Omega 3 has been lost in the continuing drive by food manufacturers to jump on the “brain food” bandwagon.

OK then, why can’t we feed our animals with fish meal or fish oil?
It takes approximately 3 tonnes of fish to produce a tonne of meat, so the sustainability issue is not good with the continual declining fish stocks.

Anyway, when was the last time you saw a cow fishing for goodness sake!

That’s alright, we can use farmed fish
Slight problem – farmed fish do not naturally produce Omega 3! (Unless of course they are fed wild fish – but this again raises the sustainability issue.)  In the wild fish obtain their Omega 3 from eating smaller fish/creatures that feed on algae - these algae are the primary source of marine Omega 3.

OK, OK, what makes linseed such a good source of Omega 3?
Linseed contains in excess of 55% Omega 3 (fish 30%). It is sustainable, low cost and natural. Linseed has been fed to animals for over 10,000 years so we’re pretty confident that any problems will have been ironed out.

But aren’t there some anti nutritional factors in linseed?
Yes there are, but the TradiLin process eliminates these by destroying the enzymes AND the anti-nutritional factors by controlling the humidity, time, temperature and pressure exerted on the linseed during processing

So how do we benefit from our animals eating linseed?
This really is a case of “we are what we eat”.  If we feed our animals with linseed, the Omega 3 from the linseed is passed onto ourselves in the meat, milk, eggs, butter and cheese etc. But the really good news is that animals are able to convert some of the Omega 3 into EPA and DHA (remember - the good bits from fish oil) – in fact they are significantly better at it than humans are, that’s why it is better to feed the animals with linseed than to eat it directly ourselves.

And what about the animals?
Well, this really is a case of win win. Feeding linseed to animals benefits them and their production.

These Zootechnical benefits express themselves as better health (eg better recovery of condition, increased fertility, better live weight gain whilst producing more milk, better meat etc). Bingo!

So what makes TradiLin so special?
TradiLin is the ONLY linseed based feed that has been trialled on so many species – dairy cows, beef, pigs, poultry, rabbits, fish - and all backed up by a raft of scientific studies (all of which are available).

TradiLin is the only linseed feed that is produced from a fully patented extrusion process.

The TradiLin process releases the Omega 3 contained with in linseed in such a way that it is available to the animal at the right time and at the right dose. The Omega 3 in raw linseed seed, cracked linseed or even linseed oil is not as available to animals, making them an inferior source.

TradiLin addresses the whole food chain – in an “holistic” approach rather than the quick fix, pop another pill attitude. By feeding our animals correctly we address the fundamental problem of consuming too much Omega 6 at the expense of too little Omega 3 without actually changing our diet – we are what we eat!
